Storms Force NASCAR to Cancel Qualifying

April 13, 2007

Golf-ball sized hail, thunderstorms and the threat of tornadoes forced NASCAR to cancel the qualifying session for Sunday's Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS). Dale Jarrett and the #44 UPS Racing Team will start 37th on Sunday as a result of the rules that establish the starting lineup when qualifying is canceled due to weather.

Storms Force NASCAR to Cancel Qualifying

The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series started its lone practice of the day at 12:30 p.m., but it was ended prematurely when rain showers started dropping across the 1.5-mile speedway. After more than a three-hour delay, practice resumed for 30 minutes. NASCAR intended to continue with the qualifying session but severe weather poured over the greater part of central Texas forcing activities at TMS to be canceled for the rest of Friday afternoon.

Jarrett's teammates David Reutimann and Michael Waltrip did not make the starting lineup for Sunday's race as a result of the qualifying session being canceled. Reutimann was the first driver among the ones that will not be starting this Sunday.

The Samsung 500 is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CDT this Sunday with FOX providing live television coverage.
