Dale Jarrett will not compete at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time since the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series started racing at the famed two-mile oval-shaped track in 1994. Jarrett finished the qualifying session for the All State 400 at the Brickyard in 46th and as a result did not make the starting lineup for Sunday's race.

The UPS Team was the 20th team to participate in the qualifying session. After a somewhat successful practice, the UPS Team was cautiously optimistic about the impending qualifying session.
Rain showers and fog resulted in one two-and-a-half hour practice session for Nextel Cup Series teams prior to qualifying. Jarrett ended the lone practice session of the weekend in 22nd place with his best lap at a time of 49.588 seconds and 181.496 mph. He was sixth fastest of the 14 teams that must qualify on time to make the starting lineup for the race. Jarrett's qualifying lap of 50.366 seconds and 178.692 mph was nearly a full second slower than his best practice lap.
"I'm not sure that I can even explain what happened from practice to qualifying," said a dejected Jarrett after qualifying. "Different car, different race track, it's pretty confusing."
While the #44 UPS Team will not race on Sunday, its teammates will. David Reutimann qualified 34th with his lap time of 49.827 seconds and 180.625 mph despite losing two-tenths of a second from his best practice lap time of 49.628 seconds and 181.349 mph.
Terry Labonte, who is driving the #55 NAPA Chevrolet this weekend, was 39th in practice with his best lap at 49.904 seconds and 180.346 mph. Labonte was 42nd in qualifying with his best lap time of 50.189 seconds and 179.322 mph. However, he will start Sunday's race from the 43rd starting spot courtesy of the past champion's provisional.
Reed Sorenson was the second driver to qualify for Sunday's race and put up a blistering fast lap of 48.858 seconds and 184.207 mph. Sorenson was the only driver to break the 48-second mark and as a result will start from the pole on Sunday afternoon. He is joined on the front row by teammate Juan Pablo Montoya with a lap time of 49.048 seconds and 183.494 mph.
For the first time in seven years ABC will provide the live broadcast of Sunday's All State 400 at the Brickyard. The race is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EDT with the broadcast of the event going live at 1 p.m. EDT. Although Jarrett will not compete in Sunday's event, he will be part of the broadcast, serving as an analyst from the ABC/ESPN pit studio.
