In September 2007, the hire of Dr. Eric Warren at Michael Waltrip Racing filled a position that has been vacant since its inception. Warren, who in 1997 earned a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from North Carolina State University with help from NASA, spearheads engineering, testing and fabrication of each car with his decade of knowledge and winning success in the motorsports industry.

It all began for Dr. Warren after graduate school when he accepted an engineering role at Kranefuss-Haas Racing. When the team became Penske-Kranefuss Racing, Dr. Warren maintained his role and expanded his efforts to assist Penske Racing South. In 1999, he advanced to chief engineer for both organizations working with drivers Rusty Wallace and Jeremy Mayfield. In January 2001, Warren left his role as Chief Aerodynamicist, Lead Engineer at Penske-Kranefuss Racing and founded Competition Aerodynamics, which focused on aerodynamic development and consulting for high performance race teams.  He was also one of four founders of Aletheon Technologies, which provided engineering development services to motorsports and US Military programs.

After establishing his own consulting company, Dr. Warren redirected his focus to working for a race team. In January 2002, he accepted a Technical Director position at Evernham Motorsports, where he supervised the complete design, development, engineering, fabrication and manufacturing of all race cars while also leading day-to-day business operations of the Engineering, Fabrication Shop, Chassis Shop, and R&D Teams.  Dr. Warren's leadership capabilities quickly led to his appointment as Vice President of Evernham Motorsports.

After winning 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, Dr. Warren parted ways with the organization during the 2007 season seeking his next challenge. Michael Waltrip realized Michael Waltrip Racing was in need of a Technical Director and recognized Dr. Warren's accolades during his tenure at Evernham Motosports. Once Michael Waltrip knew Dr. Eric Warren was available, he offered him the newly formed position.

It was evident Dr. Warren set the pace at Evernham Motorsports to win races and compete for championships. Now, Michael Waltrip Racing looks for similar success under the guidance of Dr. Warren as he builds up the organization's technological capabilities for years to come.
